Som of the achievements The period from 1939 – 1947 which is also known as the C.W.W. Kannangara era, saw several major educational reforms which tended to level the inequalities that prevailed in education during the colonial era. “Ruwanwella Central College” was one of among them which was started on the date of 01/07/1945 on the management of the principal Mr. M. S. De Silva in bilingual school, Ruwanwella. Later the school was carried to the present place in 1948 by the principal Mr. M.F.G. Perera.

The first sport meet was held in 1949 in the coconut state which was close to Sulico Medura” in Vendala, on the priority of young teacher of sports Mr. Ghanapala Wijetunge. Present Houses, Tissa, Gamunu, Vijaya and Abaya were commenced in 1956 and in the mean time the first inter-house sports meet was held in 1981 in Ruwanwella.

Representation of inter-school sport meets with popular schools like Alocious, Seewali, Palmadulla, Gankanda, in Rathnapura and St / Maris boys’ college in Kegalle promoted the interest on the field of sports in the school.

The present play ground was a gift in 1961 and the first team of cadet was started in1962. The first commandingThe School Volleyball Team officer Mr. D.L. Jayawardena was appointed as the new teacher of sports.

Mr. Upali Silva who was able to direct to the second place of the all island volley ball cup had been worked as the instructor of sports from 1964 to 1969.

In the mean time the honor should be go with the officer of sports Mr. Dhanapala Wijethunga and with the present Asst. Director of sports of the Ministry of sports Mr. Derwin Perera for directing to the first palace from National Volley Ball cup in 1975/76.

Mr. Wijesiri Kulathunga worked as the teacher of sports in 1976/82 was able to mould a few sports stars to the nation.

The period of 1982/88 was highlighted in the field of sports. The game of volley ball had been reenergized by Mr. Haheepala Edirisinghe in the years of 1988/90, and was upgraded Mrs. Priyadarshani Yasawardena and Mr. ravindra Ekanayake. Mrs. Poorna Hathnagoda and P.R.S.D. Polgampala were appointed as teachers of sports in 1992 and 1993 respectively.

Girls Net-Ball TeamThe game of Rugby first was invented by Mr. K.S.P. Karunasena in 1994 and was able to make applied three three students to Isipathana College, Colombo on the basis of their talents in the field of sports. Among them Buddhika Thalagampala, was selected as the best Rugger Player among inter societies in 2003 and Anuradha Dharmathilake as the front line player in 2004.

Mrs. Renuka Jayathilake joined to the staff of sports in 1997. the student W.R.M.L. Werakkody was able to win the first place in the events of long jump and triple jump from National Game competition in 1998/99 and also the student Buwaneka Jayasekara won the second place in the event of long jump. The student W.R.M.L. Werakkody was awarded “The Most Talented Sportsman Of The National Game” in 2002 from the event of long jump The honor of the victory should be go to Mr. P.R.S.D. Polgampala who trained the student for his victory.

The first award of all island was won by the under 16 Rugby Team in 2006 and the third place of it was won by the team of karate under the instructions of Mr. mahinda Rajathilake.

2007 became another successful year for sports, as being ableThe School Cricket Team to represent the talents of the students internationally.

The student Gayan Sandaruwan Pemarathna contributed his partnership for the Youth Asian Volley Ball competition in 2007. Gayan Sandaruwan also represented the Asian School Volley Ball competition in 2007 which was held from 12-24 and was able to reach the fifth place of it.

It is informed with much pleasure for the teachers Mr. Polgampala and K.S.P. Karunarathne for their dedication in the field of sports in the school.
